ngày 24-12-1966 tại Barat
College, Lake Forest, Illinois. Sau đó đi bus về Washington, DC,
nơi Châu đang làm việc, rồi đi New York,
vì Phương-Mai lúc đó học tại New York University
một lục cá nguyệt ở tại lục địa trước khi trở lại East-West Center, University of Hawaii,
Honolulu.
Chau and Phuong-Mai met each other at the Christmas gathering of the Vietnamese Catholic Students Association in America on 24 December 1966, at Barat College, Lake Forest Illinois. After Christmas, traveled to Washingto, DC, where Chau was working, then on to New York where Phuong-Mai was studying at New York University on a semester-on-the-mainland exchange from East-West Center, University of Hawaii, Honolulu.
